ι (Αλκίνου απόλογοι. Κυκλώπεια): Ο Οδυσσέας φανερώνει την ταυτότητά του και αρχίζει τη διήγηση όσων συνέβησαν μετά την αναχώρησή του από την Τροία. Αφηγείται την καταστροφή της Ίσμαρου και τις απώλειες από τους Κίκονες. Ακολουθεί θύελλα που τους οδηγεί στη χώρα των Λωτοφάγων, όπου ο Οδυσσέας και οι σύντροφοί του κινδυνεύουν από αμνησία. Στη συνέχεια φτάνουν στη χώρα των Κυκλώπων, όπου πολλοί θανατώνονται στη σπηλιά του Kύκλωπα. Ο Οδυσσέας όμως τον εξαπατά, λέγοντάς του ότι ονομάζεται Ούτις (Κανένας), και τελικά τον τυφλώνει, αφού πρώτα τον έχει μεθύσει. Από ένα μοιραίο κομπασμό του ο ήρωας αποκαλύπτει φεύγοντας το πραγματικό του όνομα και η κατάρα του Κύκλωπα είναι αυτή που στρέφει την οργή του Ποσειδώνα εναντίον του Oδυσσέα.
κ (Τα περί Αιόλου και Λαιστρυγόνων και Κίρκης): Από το νησί του Αιόλου φεύγουν με ούριο άνεμο. Όταν όμως οι σύντροφοί του ανοίγουν το ασκί στο οποίο ο Αίολος έχει κλείσει τις θύελλες, ξαναβρίσκονται πίσω σε αυτό. Αυτή τη φορά όμως ο Αίολος τούς διώχνει, φοβούμενος ότι οι θεοί είναι ενάντιοι στον Οδυσσέα. Περνούν από τη χώρα των Λαιστρυγόνων, όπου καταστρέφονται όλα τα καράβια εκτός από του Οδυσσέα, και φτάνουν στο νησί της Κίρκης. Η θεά-μάγισσα μεταμορφώνει σε χοίρους την αναγνωριστική ομάδα που στέλνει ο Οδυσσέας, αλλά εκείνος τους σώζει με τη βοήθεια του Ερμή. Παραμένουν στο νησί για ένα χρόνο και όταν ο Οδυσσέας ζητά να φύγει, η Κίρκη τον συμβουλεύει να επισκεφτεί πρώτα τη χώρα των νεκρών.
