Necessity is mainly expressed by the impersonal verb πρέπει followed by the subjunctive.
Πρέπει να κάνουμε συχνά διακοπέςΟ Λάκης πρέπει να κάνει δίαιτα.
Mακάρι να έρθει το πλοίο στην ώρα του. (quite possible)
Mακάρι να ερχόταν το πλοίο στην ώρα του. (maybe possible)
Mακάρι να είχε έρθει το πλοίο στην ώρα του. (impossible)
