Possessive pronouns

Possession is expressed by two structures: a) by the weak form of the personal pronoun, which is placed after the noun it modifies, in genitive.

Έχασα το πορτοφόλι μου

b)by the structure

o δικός μου, σου, του, της, του, μας, σας, τους

η δική μου, σου, του, της, του, μας, σας, τους

το δικό μου, σου, του, της, του, μας, σας, τους

The first part (δικός) behaves like an adjective and inflects for gender, number and case according to the noun which it modifies. The second part, the clitic possessive (μου) pronoun, changes according to the possessor.

Ο δικός μου υπολογιστής είναι γιαπωνέζικος

The pronoun δικός μου is used attributively or predicatively:

Ο δικός μου υπολογιστής είναι καινούργιος.

Ο υπολογιστής αυτός είναι δικός μου.

Possession can also be expressed by a phrase in genitive.

Το βιβλίο του Γιάννη / Του Γιάννη το βιβλίο
