Imperative forms are not of course the only means of expressing commands. There are a number of ways to give polite or indirect orders in Greek. Here is a sample of them, according to a scale of politeness or indirectness.
Α. positive imperative forms
Κλείσε την τηλεόραση! Κλείσε την τηλεόραση, σε παρακαλώ! (Για) Κλείσε λίγο/λιγάκι την τηλεόραση (σε παρακαλώ)!
B. a negative question
Δεν κλείνεις την τηλεόραση (σε παρακαλώ); Δεν κλείνεις λίγο/λιγάκι την τηλεόραση σε παρακαλώ;
Γ. a question
Μπορείς (σε παρακαλώ) να κλείσεις την τηλεόραση; (Μήπως) Θα μπορούσες / Σου είναι εύκολο να κλείσεις την τηλεόραση; Μήπως θα ήταν δυνατόν να κλείσετε την τηλεόραση;
