In counterfactual conditionals, the content of the if-clause has not been fulfilled in the past or most likely will not be fulfilled in the future. This means the content of the main clause is also unrealized or unrealizable.

αν +past imperfective /past perfect–
past imperfective / past perfect

Αν έμενες στην Αθήνα, θα έβλεπες συχνότερα τους φίλους σου (=but you don’t live/won’t stay in Athens)

Αν είχες μείνει στην Αθήνα, θα είχες δει τους φίλους σου πολλές φορές

There is a conditional use of να-clauses.

Να (= Αν) τον συναντήσω και θα δεις τι θα πάθει! Να ’μενα στην Αθήνα, δε θα προλάβαινα να τους βλέπω τους φίλους μου.
