  • σκληρό καρύδι: a tough cookie

Η γιαγιά μου είναι σκληρό καρύδι. Μπορεί να διαχειριστεί οποιοδήποτε πρόβλημα.

My grandmother is a tough cookie. She can handle any problem.

  • διαόλου κάλτσα: a mover and a shaker

Αυτή είναι διαόλου κάλτσα. Γνωρίζει τους πάντες και συμμετέχει σε πολλές διαφορετικές εργασίες.

She’s a mover and a shaker. She knows everyone and is involved in many different projects.

  • σαΐνι/ τσακάλι/ατσίδας/έχει μυαλό ξυράφι/ πιάνει πουλιά στον αέρα: sharp as a tack/intelligent and a quick thinker

O Τεντ είναι σαΐνι / έχει μυαλό ξυράφι/πιάνει πουλιά στον αέρα. Θα βρει μια λύση γι’αυτό το πρόβλημα.

Ted’s as sharp as a tack, so he’ll find a solution to this problem.

  • γάτα:a smart cookie

Αυτή είναι γάτα. Σίγουρα είναι ο εγκέφαλος της επιχείρησης

She’s a smart cookie. She’s definitely the brains behind the business.

  • σκυλί:a grafter

Είναι αληθινό σκυλί στη δουλειά του. Δουλεύει πολύ σκληρά.

He’s a real grafter and he works very hard.

  • καπάτσος/καπάτσα: a go-getter

Eίναι πολύ καπάτσος και πιθανόν να διοικεί την εταιρεία μία μέρα.

He’s such a go-getter and he will probably run this company one day.

  • ψηλομύτης/ψηλομύτα: a toffee-nosed

Eίναι δύσκολο να πας καλά με την Άννα γιατί είναι ψηλομύτα.

Anna is difficult to get along with because she is toffee-nosed.

  • βουτυρόπαιδο: a milksop

Όλοι είπαν ότι είναι βουτυρόπαιδο και αυτός εξαγριώθηκε.

Everybody said he was a milksop, and he was just sick of it.
