Considerations for choosing technology -online teaching

Knowing which technology to use for your online teaching can be difficult and sometimes overwhelming. This article highlights issues you should keep in mind when making this decision.

For the online learning and teaching experience to be effective, it is crucial that any decisions regarding the choice of technology be well considered and informed, and that the online component be ‘fit for purpose’ and carefully integrated into the curriculum.
  • How you choose which technology to use can depend on a number of factors such as:
  1. the learning outcomes for the course
  2. the technical requirements for the course content (files sharing, discussions, graphic files)
  • It is also important to consider the following issues:
Establish the key pedagogical principles and then decide how technology can support them (what do you want to achieve, what are the learning outcomes, how can you integrate the appropriate tech tools into teaching). Make sure that activities, tasks, exercises, and games have educational learning and stimulate learning.
  • The most important regarding online teaching is that every online tutor has to support and train their students.

Explain why you have introduced an online component.

-Provide briefing sessions and supporting material.
-Allow students to help one another.
